Arizona's Semiconductor Rebranding Initiative 

Arizona is a key player in the global semiconductor industry, known for cutting-edge technology and a robust industry presence. However, the traditional label "Silicon Desert" no longer fully represents the region's vibrancy, sustainability, and innovation. The "Chip In for Arizona" competition invites students to create a fresh, compelling brand that embodies Arizona’s achievements and future aspirations in the semiconductor field.

  • Rebrand Arizona’s Semiconductor Ecosystem:
    • Develop a new brand identity highlighting Arizona’s technological prowess and strategic importance in the global market.
    • Elevate Arizona’s profile, making it an attractive destination for investment and talent.

    • Provide a platform for students to contribute creatively, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in Arizona’s semiconductor industry.
  • Foster Collaboration and Economic Growth:
    • Unite industry leaders, academic institutions, and government bodies under a common identity.

Eligibility and Participation

Who Can Participate

  • Age Requirement:
    • Participants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of entry.
  • Enrollment Status:
    • Open to students enrolled part-time or full-time at accredited higher education institutions in Arizona, including technical schools, colleges, and graduate programs.
  • Residency and Compliance:
    • Participants must not be residents or nationals of countries under U.S. embargo or sanctions and must not appear on any U.S. government restricted party lists.
  • The competition is void where prohibited by law.

Team Composition

  • Individual or Team Entries:
    • Compete individually or in teams of up to four (4) members.
    • Team members can be from different institutions and academic disciplines.

Submission Limitations

  • Single Entry Rule:
    • Each participant may submit only one (1) entry.
    • Participants cannot submit entries as part of multiple teams.
  • Exclusions:
    • Employees, officers, and directors of the Sponsor or its affiliates, and their immediate family and household members, are not eligible.

Attendance Requirement

  • Mandatory Presence at Prize Event:
    • Finalists must attend and present their entry in person at the SEMI Arizona Chapter Breakfast Forum on April 30, 2025, in Phoenix, AZ.
    • Failure to attend may result in disqualification.

  1. Brand Narrative
  • Brand Name:
    • A unique name capturing the essence of Arizona's semiconductor ecosystem.
  • Vision Statement (20-50 words):
    • Articulate the brand's long-term aspirations.
  • Positioning Statement (50-100 words):
    • Highlight the brand's unique market position.
  1. Brand Story/Narrative (180-550 words)
  • Detailed Narrative:
    • A compelling story detailing the brand’s journey, ethos, and key differentiators.
  • Supporting Documentation:
    • Relevant documents reinforcing the brand narrative (e.g., case studies, market research summaries).
  1. Rollout Overview
  • Strategy Outline:
    • Comprehensive plan detailing brand implementation phases, key milestones, and outcomes.
  • Impact Projection:
    • Analysis of expected impact on the target audience and market positioning.

Format Requirements

  • Written Components:
    • Submit as Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx).
  • Language:
    • All submissions must be in English.

Originality and Compliance

  • Original Work: Submissions must be original creations by the participant(s).
  • Prohibited Tools: Use of generative AI tools isnot allowed.
  • Intellectual Property:Submissions must not infringe on third-party rights.
  • Content Restrictions:No offensive, defamatory, or inappropriate content.

Judging Process

Step 1: Initial Review

  • Administrative Check:
    • Verification of eligibility and compliance.
    • Ensuring required components are included.

Step 2: Evaluation by Judging Panel

  • Composition: At least seven (7) members from industry leaders and possibly government officials.
  • Scoring: Independent evaluation using the criteria.
  • Selection of Finalists: Top three (3) submissions with the highest scores.

Step 3: Finalist Notification

  • Notification Method: Via mail, email, or telephone.
  • Response Requirement: Confirm participation within ten (10) calendar days.

Step 4: Preparation for Final Presentation

  • Mentorship: Personalized support to refine presentations.
  • Presentation Guidelines: Detailed instructions provided.

Step 5: Final Presentation Event

  • Date and Venue: April 30, 2025, at SEMI Arizona Chapter Breakfast Forum, Phoenix, AZ.
  • Presentation: Finalists present their concept to attendees.
  • Audience Voting: Attendees vote in real-time to determine winners.

Step 6: Announcement of Winners

  • Prizes:
    • Based on audience votes.
    • Contingent upon proceeds from the prize fundraising event.
