Thomas Ko is the Vice President (VP), Head of Service Partnership Group focusing on games and entertainment, at Samsung Electronics, overseeing the business strategy and development of all Samsung services, such as Bixby, SmartThings, Knox, Samsung Pay, Galaxy Apps and Samsung Health, as well as content services in games and music. Ko also manages the annual Samsung Developer Conference, which sees over 5,000 attendees each year.
Ko joined Samsung in May 2015 as the Global General Manager of Samsung Pay, where he oversaw the business and global success of the service. Within two years of its launch, Samsung Pay had processed more than $10B worth of transactions in 16 countries. In 2017, Ko was promoted to Global Head of Service Innovations at Samsung, where he continues to lead the team to build a core foundation for continued success for Samsung’s services.
Prior to joining Samsung, Ko had his own venture, NAMU Systems, an award-winning mobile banking solution that employs a photograph-based interface to enhance user experience. Between 2007 and 2014, Ko was the Global Product Head of Mobile Solutions at Citigroup GTS. Under his leadership, Citibank was recognized by financial magazine, Global Finance, as the best global institutional mobile bank for three consecutive years. He also led the development and success of Citibank’s flagship product, CitiDirect BE Mobile, which processed over $400B in 2014. The product received the “Best Mobile Service or App for Enterprise” award at the prestigious Global Mobile Awards (GSMA) in 2015. Ko also had a very successful career with KPMG and Sybase, now a part of SAP.
Ko is a leader within the FinTech industry and a highly sought-after speaker. He has spoken at international conferences, such as Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Money20/20 and Finovate. He was educated at the University of Virginia and Stanford.
