Qubit Technologies: Status and Outlook

TechTALKS Stage South Wednesday, July 10
3:15pm to 3:40pm

There are a number of qubit technologies that employ semiconductors in different ways. In this talk I will review and compare the performance of demonstrated qubit technologies, including trapped ions, spin, defects in solids, and superconducting qubits. Each of these uses semiconductors in different roles in order to achieve the isolation and control of the qubit quantum state. At present, there is no equivalent to Moore’s Law for qubits, but I will discuss the challenges and outlook for building systems large enough to show advantage on practical problems.
