This presentation highlights the possibilities enabled by true DVFS in an embedded processor. The Eta Compute ECM3531 SOC contains a self-timed (DIAL3) ARM Cortex M3 with true dynamic voltage/frequency scaling. This is coupled with advanced buck converter technology that allows for continuously tuned DVFS to precisely hit a target frequency of operation. This capability leads to extremely low power MCUs which we use in our Neural Network applications to great advantage. One such capability of this technology is extending the scheduling algorithms in an RTOS like myNewt to dynamically scale its performance based on workload monitoring. This presentation describes the optimization of processor speed to match the varying needs of an embedded system in actual machine learning applications.
