New Memory Technologies Conference - CANCELLED
Changing the Target Market, Changing the Value Propositions
Event Code: CONVERG
July 14, 2009
9:00am–5:00pm
San Francisco Marriott
Presented by: Convergent Semiconductors LLC
Program Overview:
The reality of semiconductor memory technologies is that Desktop PCs are no longer the target market for memory product development—the sweet spot for memory demand is shifting toward more powerful handheld devices with expanded functions. As we move toward a new target market, the value proposition of the semiconductor technologies also shifts. New materials and equipment are necessary to accelerate these new memory technologies into high volume production.

Moving Memory Completely Out of the Box
The current manufacturing philosophy of supporting separate processes for memory and logic minimizes the cost of the memory and maximizes the performance of the logic for box-level applications. But the ability to combine high-performance logic and dense memory arrays in the same die becomes more critical as mobile applications continue to drive an increasing percentage of semiconductor revenue.

Accelerating Research-to-Development-to-Production
Ron Leckie, President, Infrastructure Advisors
It is not easy to develop new structures with new materials in new equipment to produce new technologies. The transition from research to development and into production requires strong teamwork among the suppliers to support the customers. Technologies combining high-performance logic with dense nonvolatile memory will require the process integration of more exotic materials in different equipment. In this panel session, we will hear from a variety of suppliers how they interface with each other and with customers to prepare new memory technologies for successful market adoption.
