Commercial Flexible Displays and Printed Electronics Start Volume Production
|
With flexible displays, printed RFID tags and organic photonic biomedical diagnostic devices starting volume production this year, the U.S. Display Consortium brings some of the industry leaders to the Emerging Markets TechXpot to talk about the manufacturing challenges of dealing with substrates that flex, organic materials that degrade in air, and entirely new applications enabled by ultra-low cost processes such as roll-to-roll printing of electronic circuits. Developers note that tackling these manufacturing issues involves forging new partnerships across all tiers of the supply chain. “Commercializing flexible electronics is no longer a matter of ‘if,’ but ‘when,’” says Michael McCreary, VP of E Ink and chairman of the USDC board. “And ‘when’ is ‘now.’”
