World Fab Forecast

Spending for fabs equipping and constructing is expected to hit bottom soon. Taiwan shows strongest growth rates in 2009 followed by SE Asia.
For the first time in history, 300mm capacity has surpass the 200mm capacity with about 2.7 fewer fabs

Attend this session to determine the latest trends and forecast for the Front-End fabs based on the World Fab Forecast and World Fab Watch.

Christian Gregor Dieseldorff, SEMI

3:00pm - 3:30pm

Opportunities and Risks in Emerging Materials

In many electronic market segments traditional and novel materials are experiencing better growth than in other segments. This has proven to be a strong attractor for new entrants, and many companies are focusing on meeting leading edge requirements.

This presentation will review some of the materials opportunities in Semiconductor device and packaging, displays, and photovoltaic cells, while attempting to put the market risks in context.

Mark Thirsk, Linx Consulting

3:30pm - 4:00pm

IC Industry Collision Course - A Look at the Major Forces Shaping the Future

IC Insights believes that a number of major IC industry trends are on a collision course. These trends include tightening semiconductor manufacturer capital spending budgets, the increasing number of IDMs like TI, NXP, Freescale, etc., adopting the so-called Fab-lite business model (putting increasing demands on IC foundries), and continued strong (i.e., double-digit) IC unit demand. When examining these trends and their possible future impact, IC Insights believes that increasing IC ASPs will be the final result.
Given the positive long-term outlook for worldwide IC unit demand and IC ASP, IC Insights believes that the IC industry is likely to enjoy an average annual growth rate of 10% or better over the next 10 years as compared to only 6% over the past 10 years.

Bill McClean, IC Insights

China Domestic Fab Equipment and Component/Part Suppliers

A growing number of local companies in China are involved with equipment manufacturing. Currently, several are having their machines evaluated by Chinese 300 mm fabs.
There is a growth of local semiconductor equipment companies in China which requires a local supply chain. In addition, fabs, overseas equipment manufacturers, and used equipment suppliers have a growing reliance on local parts suppliers... As a result there is a growing number of companies in China are devoted to manufacturing subsystems, components, and parts used in manufacturing semiconductor equipment. as well as spare parts.
Get an insight into the China Domestic Fab Equipment suppliers as well as trends for the upcoming years.

Lily Feng, SEMI China

Semiconductor Equipment/Materials Market Update

2007 was another record breaking year for the semiconductor industry with all portions of the supply chain experiencing growth. The picture is much different in 2008, with only device manufacturers and their materials suppliers forecasted to post record revenues while equipment manufacturers are expected to see growth decline in the double digits. Could OEM’s be victims of their own success?

Lara Chamness, SEMI

MEMS foundry: how to build a $1B company in the next 7 years?

The MEMS foundry market is growing at an annual grow rate 2 times higher than the MEMS markets. With more fabless companies and more system manufacturers willing to use MEMS devices in their systems, there is a big opportunity to build a large business in MEMS foundries. Which company will be the winner? The presentation will provide trends and answers".
